"I wish to serve on the OWU Music Alumni board because it will help me keep in contact with OWU and other alumni as well as networking. Also I have high school students who wish to pursue music outside of highschool. OWU's music program is very strong and I will highly recommend it to my students. I would also like my high school to collaborate with OWU frequently since we're so close by."
Jennifer Blair, Class of 2000
Jennifer Blair graduated in 2000 with a B.M. in clarinet and music education. A resident of Central Ohio, Jennifer has taught instrumental music in the Westerville City School District for six years. She currently teaches general music, beginning woodwinds, and middle school band, but has also been very active in Westerville as a high school concert and marching band director, woodwind instructor, and music theory instructor. In her free time since graduation, Jennifer has also maintained a private woodwind studio, served as a research and editing consultant for band historian and author, Paul Bierley, and edited the CD-ROM edition of The Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music for band historian and author, Bill Rehrig.
Jennifer looks forward to serving on the OWU Music Alumni board and hopes that her close proximity to the campus will give her the opportunity to serve the needs of OWU’s music alumni in Central Ohio, as well as the music department and current students.
Kevin Foster, Class of 1997
Currently, Kevin is teaching voice and piano out of his home in Westlake, OH (Cleveland suburb). He has 30 students keeping him quite busy. He still get around quite a bit as an accompanist, playing for several local schools for concerts and contests. In the past he has kept busy as a performer and collaborater - serving as coach/accompanist for operas and musical theater and performing leading roles with the Civic Opera of Kansas City and other community groups, as well as singing tenor solos in several oratorios and cantatas. Kevin has held full-time positions as a church music director and as a high school accompanist. Besides his current student load and cooking fine meals for his family, he continues writing choral music and have been published by Mark Foster Music (no relation). For more details, please stop by his website at www.kevinsfoster.com and feel free to contact him directly.
"As to why I might like to serve with the board of Alumni folk: I think it is exciting and important to stay connected to one another as we move through our careers, not just to say, "oh, well look what I've done..." but more as a built in support system of peers who we can rely of for both a bit of cheerleading, if you will, and of professional development and challenge. Also, I think our role in recruitment efforts could really be stepped up to enhance the current OWU music department."

REASON for serving on the alumni board:
I wish to serve on the alumni board in order to continue to unify music department students and alumni. The board has done a great job so far, and I’m happy to be a part of this process in any way. In my experience since graduation, I have learned just how valuable my OWU education was! I’m grateful for all I learned, and I hope that in turn I can be useful to others. |
